Disabling Fast User Switching

Disabling Fast User Switching

Overview

LanSchool Classic does not support Windows Fast User Switching feature. The student client will not function properly when the computer is switched to a second user account. It is recommended to disable Fast User Switching in order for the Windows student client to function properly.

Disabling Fast User Switching

Fast User Switching can be disabled a couple different ways. Administrator rights may be required to make these changes.

Using Local Group Policy Editor

  1. Hold the Windows Key and press “R” to bring up the Run dialog box.
  2. Type “gpedit.msc” then press “OK“.
  3. The Local Group Policy Editor appears. Expand the following:
    • Local Computer Policy
    • Computer Configuration
    • Administrative Templates
    • System
    • Logon
  4. Open “Hide Entry Points for Fast User Switching“.
  5. Select “Enabled” to turn Fast User Switching off. Set it to “Disable” to turn it on.

Using the Registry Editor

  1. Hold the Windows Key and press “R” to bring up the Run dialog box.
  2. Type "regedit" then press "OK".
  3. Navigate to this policy key Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
  4. Right-click in the empty pane and choose New> DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  5. Name the DWORD "HideFastUserSwitching"
  6. Double-click on "HideFastUserSwitching" and change the value data to "1" to hide the switch user option.
