Installing LanSchool Teacher for macOS
Update March 26, 2024: Release of macOS 14.4 has broken the ability to use SSID Whitelisting. Anyone currently using SSID Whitelisting, it is recommended to delay updating to macOS 14.4 until this issue has been fixed.
Overview
The following instructions will assist you with manually installing LanSchool Teacher on a single MacOS teacher device. For information on installing the student client or mass deploying LanSchool throughout your organization, see Setting up LanSchool for MacOS.
Installing LanSchool Teacher for MacOS
- Locate the LanSchool Teacher installer in the downloaded LanSchool Classic zip folder>>Mac and copy lanschool_teacher.dmg to the device.
- Click on the lanschool_teacher.pkg
- A prompt notifying you that a program will try to install will appear. Click Allow.
- Follow the installation wizard through the introduction screen. Click Continue.
- Read the Software License Agreement, then click Continue. Click Agree.
- Type in the Teacher channel number (1 to 16,000) Remember to choose a unique number for each classroom. If desired, set any Advanced Options by checking the box "Check to configure advanced options", then click Continue.
- Select any advanced installation settings you wish to modify. Click Continue.
Advanced Settings include: - Stealth Mode- The LanSchool icon will not be visible on the student computer.
- Student can Change Channels- Allows students to change the channel they are subscribed to.
- No Keyboard Monitoring- Turns off keyboard monitoring of students.
- No Internet History Logging- Turns off logging Internet history of students.
- Enable Network Tampering Controls- Monitors wired and wireless network adapter disconnections (including setting SSID wireless allow list.)
- Screen Privacy- Allows students to disable sharing their screens.
- Install Chrome Extension- Install Chrome Extension for web history and limiting.
- Allow Task Manager / Activity Monitor limiting on Student - Allows the teacher to decide to limit or not limit Task Manager and Activity Monitor
- If desired, enable WIFI SSID Whitelisting. When enabled, you will need to enter the desire SSIDs by typing them in the lower box and clicking Add. When this is enabled, students will be restricted to those SSIDs while they are available to connect to. Click Continue.
- If desired, connect the teacher to a LanSchool Connection Server by selecting Connect Teacher to Connection Server and then enter the static IP address in the Connection Server Address field. Click Continue.
- If desired, select Password Secure Mode. Password Secure Mode requires both Teacher and Student installs to have the same password to subscribe to a channel. Click Continue.
- Select whether or not to allow anonymous and confidential problem reports to be sent to LanSchool. Click Continue.
- Select how you want to install the software.
- An installation prompt will appear with the required amount of space that your computer needs in order to install the software. Click Install.
- Enter the User Name and Password for an administrator account on this Mac.
- After the installation is successful, you will see the wizard update. You can click Close on the wizard. You will also see the LanSchool icon bounce in the dock area.
- Enter your unique license key. The license key can be found in your LanSchool Classic Portal.
Licensing Server Connection
LanSchool Classic 9.3 requires a license key registration for the teacher consoles. Ensure the following site is whitelisted for your region.
