LanSchool Classic System Requirements
Overview
These requirements cover the LanSchool Teacher Console, Student software, LanSchool Connection Service (LCS), licensing server connectivity, network communication, and supported browsers.
LanSchool Teacher Console Requirements
The LanSchool Teacher Console must be installed on each instructor's computer.

LanSchool Student Requirements
The LanSchool Student software must be installed on each student computer that will be monitored by a teacher.

LanSchool Connection Service (LCS) Requirements
The LCS should be installed on a dedicated physical workstation or virtual machine that remains powered on and available at all times.
The recommended server specifications depend on the number of users in your environment.
For environments with up to 500 users
Dedicated workstation or virtual machine that is always running
64-bit Windows Server 2016 or later
Static IP address
4 GB RAM
100 Mbps Ethernet network adapter
For environments with 501–10,000 users
Dedicated physical machine or virtual machine that is always running
64-bit Windows Server 2016 or later

LanSchool Classic 9.3 requires license key registration for Teacher Consoles.
To allow license registration and communication with the licensing server, ensure your organization's firewall or web filter allows the appropriate regional address.

Your organization should allow the address associated with its region through its firewall, proxy, or web filtering solution.
Network Architecture and Firewall Requirements
LanSchool Classic uses your local area network (LAN) to communicate between teacher and student computers.
If your network has an internal firewall, VLAN separation, or network segmentation between teacher and student devices, ensure that the required LanSchool TCP and UDP communication is permitted.

Ensure UDP port 2426 is allowed for LanSchool Connection Service teacher updates.
This port must be permitted on both:
The teacher computer
The LanSchool Connection Service server
Important: Firewalls and network security policies can prevent teacher and student computers from communicating even when LanSchool is installed successfully. Verify network connectivity and firewall rules if teachers cannot discover or connect to student computers.Supported Languages
LanSchool Classic Teacher and Student software is available in multiple languages. However, not all software components are translated into every supported language.
To use a different language, download the appropriate installation files from the LanSchool Classic Portal.

Does LanSchool Classic support Web Limiting in Mozilla Firefox?
No. LanSchool Classic Web Limiting does not currently work with Mozilla Firefox due to changes in Firefox requirements.
The Mozilla Firefox extension is not currently supported and is under review.
If you need to restrict access to Firefox, you can use the Limit Apps feature to restrict the Firefox application instead.

The recommended requirements depend on the number of users:
Up to 500 users: 64-bit Windows Server 2016 or later, 4 GB RAM, static IP address, and 100 Mbps Ethernet.
501–10,000 users: 64-bit Windows Server 2016 or later, 16 GB RAM or greater, static IP address, and 1 Gbps Ethernet.
Which ports need to be open for LanSchool Classic?
LanSchool Classic uses TCP and UDP communication across the local network between teacher and student computers. UDP port 2426 must also be allowed on the teacher computer and LanSchool Connection Service server for teacher updates.

Does LanSchool Classic require internet access?
LanSchool Classic primarily uses the local area network for communication between teacher and student computers. However, LanSchool Classic 9.3 requires connectivity to the appropriate regional licensing server for license key registration.

Does LanSchool Classic support Firefox?
No. LanSchool Classic Web Limiting and Web History are not supported in Mozilla Firefox. Use Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Safari for supported browser monitoring features.
Why can't LanSchool Classic monitor or limit websites in Firefox?
The Mozilla Firefox extension is currently unsupported due to changes in Firefox requirements. If you need to prevent students from using Firefox, you can use the LanSchool Classic Limit Apps feature to restrict the Firefox application.

Does LanSchool Classic support Android devices, iPads, or iPhones?
No. LanSchool Classic does not currently support Android devices, iPads, or iPhones for either teachers or students.

Looking for mobile device support? LanSchool Air offers additional flexibility for teachers, including access from iPads and Android devices. However, LanSchool Air also does not support Android, iPad, or iPhone devices for student monitoring.
Is LanSchool Classic compatible with the latest macOS version, including macOS Tahoe 26.3?
New macOS versions and builds are tested for compatibility with LanSchool Classic prior to their public release. If compatibility issues are identified during testing, they will either be addressed or documented in the LanSchool Classic Knowledge Base.
Does LanSchool Classic version 8.0.2.42 support macOS Tahoe 26.3?
LanSchool Classic versions older than the latest available release are no longer officially supported or tested against new macOS releases. Therefore, compatibility with macOS Tahoe 26.3 cannot be guaranteed for LanSchool Classic version 8.0.2.42.
