Showing Teacher Screen

Showing Teacher Screen

Overview

Show teacher screen allows a teacher to broadcast their computer screen to one or more student computers in either Full Screen or Windowed mode. This is a great way to demonstrate a lesson or present to students directly on their screens rather than on a smart display in the front of the classroom.

Here is a brief video demonstrating the use of Show Teacher:

Showing Teacher's Screen (Full Screen Mode)

  1. Select one or more student computer thumbnails. If none are selected, the screen will be shown to all computers.
  2. Click the drop-down arrow to the right of the Show button.
  3. Select the Full Screen option.
The Teacher Console will be minimized on the teacher's computer and the screen will be displayed on the selected student computers. The student computers' keyboards and mice/trackpads will be locked while the teacher's screen is being shared in full screen.

Show Screen Settings

  1. Active Display - Select from multiple monitors. LanSchool Classic will only show the main display monitor that is selected by Windows or Mac.
  2. Image Quality - Ability to select from a performance slider bar for speed vs. image quality.
    1. Turtle mode will provide the highest quality image at a lower performance.
    2. Rabbit mode will provide the lowest quality image but best performance.
  3. Turbo Mode - See up to 800% performance increase with 6-10 frames per second depending on available bandwidth. Turbo mode will be disabled if some of the systems selected are not capable of running at this level of performance based on computational speed.
  4. Auto-minimize this window - Automatically minimize the Show Screen Settings window.
  5. Draw on Screen - Allows the Teacher to draw on their screen with a red pen. Select the Stop Drawing button to change the mouse cursor from a red pen back to normal (arrow)
  6. Stop - Select this button to stop sharing the Teacher's screen with students.

If the Show Screen Settings box does not appear, check your taskbar to see if it is minimized behind the LanSchool Classic icon.

  1. Select one or more student computer thumbnails. If none are selected, the screen will be shown to all computer).
  2. Click the drop-down arrow to the right of the Show button.
  3. Select the Windowed option.

The teacher's screen will be displayed on the student's computer in a re-sizable window, allowing them to continue working while watching the teacher's demonstration.

To stop showing the teacher's screen, select the Stop button in the Show Screen Settings window.

Drawing On the Teacher's Screen While Sharing

  1. Right-click on the LanSchool icon in the System Tray or Dock.
  2. Select the Draw On Screen option.
  3. Left-click and drag to annotate on the screen with a red pen.
  4. To stop drawing, select the Stop Drawing button at the top center of the Teacher's screen.

Troubleshooting Show Teacher

LanSchool currently offers two different forms of Show Teacher/Student functions, TCP and UDP.  The TCP Show Teacher/Student function currently has a hard limit of 32 students.

If Show Teacher/Student function does not work with a group of students greater than 32, check the following setting:
Administer menu>>Preferences>>Teacher Tab> "Use TCP protocol for better performance, especially for mobile devices."
